I am so proud of you for pursuing your dream and not giving up when the going got tough. You have become a wonderful young woman, and UCLA is privileged to have you as a student.

Love,

Translation: The rules don't require a 4.0, but it sure helps VERY much, since some students go beyond that! Having said that, I also got in to UCLA---a while back, it is true---with a GPA below 4.0 but above 3.0. How? No one ever spelled it out for me. But my application brimmed with sincere ardor and enthusiasm, and I poured my soul into the portfolio (and essay, too, for that matter). They know it when they see it, as long as the minimum requirements are met.

Time rolls on. Pointed hairdo, double ear studs, old-man plaid shirt.....!! UCLA goes on and on, ever-changing. It is OK by me! I'm a M.Arch grad from 20 years ago, so nothing surprises me, even if I have doubts about architecture as undergrad major, but it sounds like they are doing it right---full exposure to lots of influences, not making narrow construction/technicians. :- )

Marina--you have added a special Latin fragrance to the department of World Arts and Cultures. Your strong, lucid dance has always been recognized but the true beauty is the heart of the dancer. You have it all--a vivid, meaningful and expressive soul that will thrill audiences to the core. Congratulations on your graduation. The friends you have made at UCLA will continue applauding you as you travel--most likely giving a standing ovation for the beautiful and intelligent woman and artist you are.

All students applying to the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture (UCLA Arts) must meet the minimum eligibility for the University of California. UCLA Arts faculties review all applications individually and place a strong emphasis on each student’s artist practice as presented in either an audition or portfolio.

Hi! I am a mom of an art student ( high school age). I am wondering if it is true that a high school kid has to have over a 4.0 to get in to UCLA, even in the arts field. I went to UCLA in the 80s and loved it. My daughter is such a Bruin, but her grades are more in the 3.4 range.Let me know if you have any info on this. Thanks and good luck to you. It is a wonderful school !
